Blinds Information

Window blinds and coverings are designed to give you maximum privacy while providing you with flexibility in lighting. Not all window treatments are the same, different blinds are designed for specific uses. But, how do you know which blinds or shades fit your unique needs? We designed Blinds Information to give you all the resources you need to make the best decision when choosing blinds and shades for your home.

Window treatments are as much an aesthetic decision as they are a practical one and we’ve designed this site to guide you through the process of choosing the best blinds for your home. Solid, reliable, beautiful shades and blinds can be as much an investment as they are decoration. Considering that blinds can last anywhere from five to ten years depending on their construction, these window treatments can be considered a major investment in your home. You not only need to consider design and colors for your blinds, but also general construction and the light and shade needs of your unique house.

Blinds Information will guide you through this seemingly daunting process so you can feel confident in your blinds and shades purchasing decision. There are thousands of different blinds and shades on the market, each one different. Although this can be confusing at first, consider that most blinds fit into one of thirteen general categories, each one defining a specific look, usability, construction, and light diffusing properties.
Categories of Blinds and Shades include:

    * Cellular Shades– These are shades with a honeycomb construction that traps air which provides insulation and diffuses light. Great for sound reduction, energy efficiency and light control. Cellular shades, also known as Honeycomb blinds, come in a variety of colors.
    * Wood Blinds– Made from wood, these blinds are horizontally slated and come in a variety of stains and finishes. Wood blinds are perfect for adding a natural feel to your room.
    * Faux Wood Blinds– Similar to wood blinds, but better for humid environments. Faux Wood Blinds are like wood blinds, but come in limited colors.
    * Mini Blinds– Contemporary style blinds, made of aluminum and standard to many new homes. Mini blinds have small horizontal slats to control light and provide privacy. Mini blinds are a low cost option when budget is your primary concern.
    * Vertical Blinds– Blinds that hang vertically and rotate from a single position at the top of each vane. These blinds can be pulled to one side or another and are ideal for very large windows or sliding glass doors. Vertical Blinds come in fabrics or vinyl pvc and in a variety of textures and colors.
    * Vertical Blind Alternatives– Other alternative blinds for large windows and patio glass doors. These blinds range from Vertiglide, which is a cellular shade hung on a vertical access, to sheer coverings, each providing light diffusion and privacy.
    * Roller Shades– Also called roll up shades, these flat shades are the traditional shade that use bead loop cords to raise and lower them. Roller shades have been updated since your Grandma and are available in modern, contemporary styles and fabrics. They come in a variety of textures and colors.
    * Solar Shades– Flat sheer shades designed to diffuse harsh sunlight while still providing you with visibility out your window when fully lowered. Available in a variety of colors, fabrics, and transparencies.
    * Woven Wood Shades & Bamboo Shades– Flat shades crafted from natural fibers such as grasses, bamboo, or wood fibers. A softer alternative to traditional roller shades or blinds.
    * Roman Shades– Constructed of fabric, these shades use hooks and string to raise the shade. Available in a variety of fabrics from elegant to casual with or without liners.
    * Sheer Horizontal Shades– Combine the light diffusing power and of cellular shades with the versatility of traditional horizontal blinds. They can be tilted to control light or raised fully to conceal the shade in the headrail. Available in a variety of colors in light filtering or room darkening opacities.
    * Motorized Blinds & Shades– Also called automatic blinds and remote controlled blinds, these are electronic and controlled by a remote. These blinds are best for very large, or hard to reach windows. Motorized blinds are available in a variety of styles ranging from cellular to wood.
    * Pleated Shades– Folded, creased, and pleated horizontal shades that look like traditional horizontal blinds when raised, but are actually one solid sheet of fabric. Best used for privacy or light diffusion and come in a variety of colors.
    * Arches & Shapes– Available in wood or cellular, these types of shades are designed for the arched or shaped windows.
    * Skylight Shades– Sheer or light blocking shades for skylights. These come in manual and remote-controlled designs.
